Long Time, No Write: Life Updates

Readers, it has been ages since I posted. I’ve missed writing here! The last blog post I drafted (but never published) was a Nov/Dec 2022 Recent Reads. In case you’re interested, here are a few of the books I was going to highlight and definitely recommend. I’ll let you look up reviews on your own and decide if they’re for you:

  • The Heirloom Garden by Viola Shipman
  • I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys
  • Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper

As I sit here writing this, I’m enjoying the company of my husband on the couch in what is now our home, having written a few thank you notes and watched a few episodes of shows we both enjoy.

That’s my first important life update: we got married!

Nearly a month ago, in fact, which is just wild.

Since that time, we’ve been settling into our home together, which has involved plenty of sorting and organizing (fun!). Summer break is perfect for that.

My second life update is: I’m a fifth grade teacher again!

Yep. I’m headed back to being a fifth grade homeroom teacher in just a couple of short weeks. Teaching Spanish was fun for a couple of years, and a great transition back to the States for me, but I have missed forging deeper relationships and pouring my heart into one grade-level of kids, rather than a few hundred. I’ve also missed working on a grade level team, and I’m definitely excited about the team I’m joining.

I’ll be teaching science, social studies, and Bible. So while I’m not going back (this year, anyway) to my passion of ELA, I’m definitely excited to integrate all sorts of reading and writing into those subjects and share my love of reading with my kiddos.

I’m also looking forward to settling into a routine of writing again. I haven’t yet decided how often I’ll write, but definitely more often than I have written in the last year!

So look forward to a few recent reads posts, as well as a post I’ve been mulling over about how to find your readerly footing as your season of life changes. 🙂

Be back soon!
